Anton Friedrich Koch analyzes Hegel's basic teachings and draws the conclusion that philosophy has to turn hermeneutical and perspectival after all.

Metaphysics has always claimed to be the universal, non-perspectival theory of logical space, i.e. of whatever may be the case and may be thought of. Other than physics, though, it never did turn into a mature science. Hegel's diagnosis of this remarkable fact, developed first in his Phenomenology of Spirit and then, more systematically, in his Science of Logic, has it that the metaphysical theories from Parmenides onwards (up to David Lewis, as we might say) have taken logical space as something fixed and stable, while in fact it evolves in a purely logical, pre-temporal process. Still, Hegel's own theory of logical evolution is metaphysical, albeit in a nonstandard, second order way, and did not turn into a mature science either. Anton Friedrich Koch analyzes Hegel's basic teachings and draws the conclusion that philosophy has to turn hermeneutical and perspectival after all.
