Venus, the goddess of beauty and love, is omnipresent in the arts as a reflexive figure and projective surface for ideas of love. Ten individual studies serve as examples of the polyvalent interpretations of the ancient goddess in the 17^th century, and for the first time, include considerations of the relationship between poetic rejection and approval and the function of various figurations (Paris, Mars, Adonis).
