Jewish tradition has been largely repressed from German cultural memory. From educating the aesthetic person to the Shoah, the book traces the development of a discourse that idealized the beautiful person and the creative individual and thereby led to the suppression of monotheism and the foundation of a secular religiosity, paving the way toward the völkisch ideology of National Socialism.
