Libraries stand for information justice and participation as well as for an open learning and research culture. This is associated with values, but also with conflicts. An institutional ethic is presented that helps libraries promote the safe handling of data, ensure the protection of intellectual property and cultural heritage, and enable participation and freedom of information.
