During the Cold War, Berlin was the symbolical site of a world divided into two blocks. Christian communities, however, aimed to maintain and defend their ecclesiastical unity beyond state borders. Maria Neumann shows how religious association functioned under the conditions of separation and how church actors found themselves in a position to overcome the Wall.
