Cognitive processes play a central part in our cinematic experience. Films do not simply impart factual knowledge documentable by observation. Peter Remmers combines ideas from film theory, phenomenological image theory, and epistemology to develop a systematic definition of cinema's epistemic object. In this way, the study lays the foundations for a philosophical conception of film.
