It is sometimes assumed that a patent represents a monopoly in a product market and therefore a sort of warranty on wealth. In recent years, however, enterprises worldwide, recognizing the investment value of their intellectual property, have begun to develop complex patent valuation models that take into account production costs, market access, prospective buyersè^- subjective value estimates, and a host of other considerations belying this naïve assumption.
