In South London, pyromaniac, teenage gang leader, Jamie, almost goes to prison after trying to blow up his school. His parents move the family to Portugal, hoping his behaviour will improve, away from bad influences and a toxic, crime-riddlled society. Once there, lonely and isolated by the language barrier, Jamie befriends his neighbour Paulo, because he can speak English. He's an unlikely ally, an introverted, shy, studious boy terrorised by local bullies and his abusive, drunken father, who often beat his loving mother and who Paulo blames for her premature death. Two rebels with different causes, thrown together by fate, the boys form an unholy alliance which can only end in violence, chaos and disaster, as Jamie fails to change his ways and begins to teach Paulo how to stand up for himself.
