A neurotic man lives alone in his empty house. And something is watching from the woods.

Simon lives in a half-finished neighborhood, a several minutes drive from real civilization, surrounded by an undeveloped wilderness. He works from home, sleeps poorly, and drifts through life on autopilot-haunted by the sense that he should strive for more, but refuses to reach for it.

But just as he finally resolves to change his life, fate intervenes.

One night, he hears something at his back door. An intruder, he thinks. But when he draws back the blinds, he sees a girl-barefoot, filthy, collapsed on his patio. She looks like the victim of an attack. And for once in his life, Simon finds himself in the position to do something great: He can save her.

But she isn't a victim. She isn't lost. She isn't even human.

What follows is a story about primal needs, hunger, and longing. It's about the dark part of ourselves we're too afraid to acknowledge, but which we instinctively trust when it comes to love. It's about what happens when a man encounters a vampire and decides he doesn't want to escape from her. He wants to understand her, and to be with her.

What happens when prey becomes fond of their predator?

Told through the eyes of a man unraveling, Vampire in the Backyard is an erotic, forbidden romance about the physical and emotional realities of loving an immortal-and the risks we take when offering our softest parts to someone, praying that they do not bite.

It's a story about danger and desire, trust and fear, and what it means to open your home, and your heart, to something that might not be capable of loving you back.
