Have you noticed how a musician plays the piano? He reads music from a book as he plays, glancing back and forth from his book to the keyboard, and then feverishly swatting at the book when it becomes necessary to turn the page.

It appears difficult because it is. He has had to acquire three separate talents: (1) he has learned to read music, (2) he has learned to play the piano, and (3) he has learned to do both at the same time.

Playing the piano by ear is much easier, because you can simply learn to play the piano without having to learn to read music.
