The urgent journey turns into an odyssey through broken buses and unpredictable encounters - from a gentle teacher to a cynical black marketeer. Just when the communist wasteland threatens to overwhelm him, Radu meets Elena, a girl with auburn hair and green eyes on a bicycle, who becomes his guide and his first escape. She offers him a moment of silence and intense life, just before he has to utter the hardest words.
