Semiconductor Integrated Optics for Switching Light, Second Edition provides a concise description of the physics and engineering of semiconductor optical waveguides for photonic and electronic switching with a focus on optical communication applications. The book includes the following topics: Linear and Nonlinear optics, Linear electro-optic effect electroabsorption and electrorefraction, nonlinear refraction, nonlinear optical devices. The second edition, revised and expanded, includes semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) and revised so that most of the Mathematica notebooks from the first edition are translated to Python notebooks that can be run on Google's collaborative platform. The notebooks are intended to demonstrate how semiconductor integrated optics devices can be designed and analyzed.
