The Dead Sea is lifeless because it only receives and never gives back. In contrast, a life of giving is fresh and flourishing. Under the Old Covenant, giving was often a burden, motivated by obligation rather than love. However, under the New Covenant, we have a better covenant established on better promises. God exemplified true giving motivated by love by sacrificing His only Son, Jesus Christ, for sinners. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for friends.
