Fixed Ideas is a restless and effective tale of desire, gender and longing, about fundamental loneliness and the constant, gnawing awareness that threatens our ability to encounter one another as the person we really are.

The story of a young woman and a slightly older man, both working at a newspaper in Oslo, who have a one night stand. Fixed Ideas explores how their relationship and perception of each other develops in the aftermath.

Eline Lund Fjæren (b. 1994) lives in Bergen. She made her debut in 2013 with the novel Young Girl, Adult Male, which was met with excellent reviews and which won the Norli Debut Prize and the Oslo Prize. In 2015 she published her second book, The Clock and the Bed. The book was shortlisted for Book of the year by Natt & Dag.

Fixed Ideas is the story of Espen and Emilie. He is a literary critic, she is a young, promising culture journalist, both for the same paper. They sleep with each other after a work party and from there, we follow the two of them and hear the relationship between Espen and Emilie told from two completely different viewpoints.
