The city's management of the park's manicured lawns and various outbuildings is taxed as it continues to be home to many unhoused people. A construction project in the park unearths ancient wisdom, and the novel embraces magical realism as strange things happen, changelings abound, and yet life goes on. Sometimes looking to the past is the best way to find hope for the future. Transformative change is hard and can require courage and faith to embrace. Fear can also be an incentive.
