Some adventurers believe telling a good story brings luck on the road, that the gods ease the journey so they won't miss the ending. Others hope that an entertainer is harder to stab. Most agree that a tale or two makes the road shorter.

Born to a people whose entire purpose was the march, a lonely soldier is looking for a place to stop wandering, hoping to have left behind a life of endless war. However, with battle being her only trade, if she wants to eat, she fights. At least now she chooses who, and more importantly, who for. This is one of Pel's stories. A short march by her standards, in questionable company, to face a horror preying on the native villagers.

A short story featuring a warrior from the Traveler's Luck series. Approximately 11k words, 37 pages. Past tense, third person, limited omniscient.
