Yellow Wolf was the youngest war chief that the Chiricahua Band of Apache Indians had ever had at the age of twenty-four.
In the years following the war between the states, many whites began crossing their lands and some even trying to take up land there. The mountains and desert area between Las Cruces New Mexico and Tucson, Arizona had been their home for generations. Yellow Wolf's parents had been killed by white traders when he was only ten. Now that, coupled with the white settlers moving in was more than he could or would take. When the other chiefs wouldn't listen to him and join all the Apache bands together and kill the whites, Yellow Wolf decided he would do it alone.
A young Calvary Major named Braxton Kirby showed him that he would not.
