Agro-based industries play a vital role in the development of India's rural economy, which has been receiving increasing attention from the central as well as state government, in view of its importance to the national reconstruction. The economic prosperity of a developing country like India depends largely on the development of agro-based industries which in turn leads to the creation of forward and backward linkages of the development process on large scale by making mutual complementarity of agriculture and industries. The study is essentially empirical in nature and attempts to make an economic-analysis of agro based industries in India and Karnataka in general and Hyderabad Karnataka region in particular for the post liberalization period i.e., from 1990-91 to 2004-05. The book deals with the operational conditions of agro-based industries. Agro-based industrial units are very much varies in their size, cost structure, scale of production, pattern of financing and problems faced. The difference is inter-industry as well as intra-industry. The study has been undertaken to examine industrial units and their specific problem individually so that functioning of agro-based industries is better understood. The study would make a definite contribution to the existing knowledge of the subject, and is useful not only to general readers but also to scholars who intend to do further research. Dr. Gouradevi S. Katnalli presently working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics, at Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society's, Smt. Veermma Gangasiri College of Arts, Science, Home Science and Management for Women, Gulbarga (Karnataka). She has been serving in teaching since 1985, with a distinguished academic record, obtained M. A. Economic in 1983 from Gulbarga University, Gulbarga, M. Phil Degree in 1998 from Madurai Kamraj University and Ph. D. Degree in 2008-09 from Gulbarga University, Gulbarga. She has so far participated/presented a number of research papers in National and International Seminars/Conferences for which she received a good response from the academic community. She has presented about 80 bits of Chintana's in Kannada which are broadcast in All India Radio, Gulbarga which is also published in the form of Book in Kannada and she is the regular participator in radio talks related to budget discussion and other current topics related to economics and other social aspects.

She is an active member of several academic bodies and worked as BOE member. She has completed minor research project sponsored by UGC, SWRO, Bangalore entitled "Rain Water Harvesting in Gulbarga District-.

Rural and regional development, industrial and labour problems, agriculture and social welfare, women empowerment are her thirst areas of research.
