Hayward Brown who is the drug stores soda jerk, the only job he could find, befriends the daughters of the Stockdale's and Albright's. They are out shopping with their mom's and grandmas yearning for a strawberry shake prepared by Hayward. He always makes them special for the girls. Upon entry to the drug store the girls rush to the fountain. The owner of the store told the girls that Hayward was arrested this morning. Heart broken and very tearful their mothers try to comfort them. Marie jumps into action, researching the charges, even more disbelief, "serial killer, Hayward are you serious?" The Patsy of Lewisville book six of the series, explains the why and how. None of this makes any sense the court clocks tics down, trial will begin in less than a week. When Marie and Papa interview Hayward in the county jail, he thinks he made an order wrong, I will pay for the mistake, "who would tell the police, why not my boss?"
