Eleven-year-old Niki finds her life turned upside down when she's uprooted to the remote town of Seaton, leaving behind so much of what she knows and loves. On their first night there, a lightning storm and deer encounter cause her family to crash just outside the city limits. Strangely, only Niki and her little sister Gerty remember the storm.

While everyone emerges from the wreck unharmed, not everyone is unscathed. Niki senses something is wrong. Visions begin to haunt her-visions of a town, its people, and a life that feels both foreign and familiar. Every corner of Seaton reveals itself differently to Niki and sometimes even to Gerty. But with only a toddler as her witness, who will believe her story?

As Niki struggles to understand this creepy parallel world that overlays her reality, she must try to make a home in a place that feels both unreal and eerily familiar. How can she start anew in a world that seems so false?
