In Merryvale, Idaho, vampires and werewolves share the same schools and streets, but old grudges run deep. For seventeen-year-old Joni, a vampire, and her girlfriend Jean, a werewolf, prejudice shadows every step of their relationship. Some can't stand that they're same-sex, others hate that they're interspecies-and plenty despise them for both.

When a vampire drifter is murdered and Jean becomes the prime suspect, the fragile peace of Merryvale begins to crack. Jean flees with Max, a fellow outcast werewolf, leaving Joni reeling and desperate to follow. Her search leads to Boise, where betrayal and unexpected truths unravel-but danger closes in faster than answers.

Captured by a violent white supremacist group, Joni and Jean must fight side by side to survive. But even if they escape, the supremacists aren't finished. They're bringing their hate back to Merryvale-and the final showdown could consume the whole town.
