Hammond's historical novel, based on years of research, describes how his ancestor's rescue mission might have happened.

James T. Hammond is a retired newspaper journalist with 45 years experience at The Greenville (S.C.) News, Wilmington (N.C.) Star-News, Asian Wall Street Journal, Wall Street Journal/Europe, The (Columbia, S.C.) State and South Carolina Business Journals. He is retired and lives in Greenville County, S.C. He published Tom's War, about his father's World War II experience as a bomber pilot.
