Secondary trauma is an occupational hazard in social service providers because professionals routinely work with clients who have experienced trauma. In their efforts to understand others and to be responsive to them, service providers are open to what others say. By being open and empathic, providers expose themselves vicariously to trauma.

This short book discusses strategies for identifying and dealing with secondary trauma.
