JANE WERNER WATSON (1915-2004) was the original editor of Little Golden Books, and the author of numerous Golden Books herself, many of which were illustrated by the great children's illustrators of the mid-twentieth century. MARTIN PROVENSEN (1916-1987) and his wife, Alice, illustrated more than fifty books for children, including Our Animal Friends at Maple Hill Farm and numerous Little Golden Books, such as The Color Kittens and Katie the Kitten. In 1984, they won the Caldecott Medal for The Glorious Fight, which they wrote and illustrated together.
