THE LEADERSHIP CAPABILITY THE FUTURE DEMANDS
In a world where leadership is moving at warp speed...Where AI accelerates complexity...And pressure pushes leaders toward rapid decisions...One capability rises above the noise: the power to reflect.
The Human Loop introduces a structured reflection framework for leading with clarity, courage, and humanity in times of accelerated change. It gives leaders something rare and essential. A disciplined way to pause with purpose in a world that rewards constant acceleration.
Grounded in responsible leadership theory and social cognitive science, this first-edition book reframes structured reflection as a critical leadership capability for the age of AI. At the heart of the book are five reflective domains:
- Know Yourself
- Know Your People
- Know Your Environment
- Know Your Impact
- Deepen Self-Awareness
Whether you are a senior executive, a rising leader, or navigating complex decisions daily, The Human Loop provides a practical path to leading with greater clarity and intention. If you are ready to strengthen your leadership, expand your awareness, and make more intentional decisions, welcome to The Human Loop.

Dr. Jennifer Sparks Taylor helps organizations ensure their values aren't just slogans but valuable experiences for employees and customers. With expertise in marketing, communications, and leadership, she understands how self-awareness shapes communication, workplace culture, and drives success. Jennifer encourages leaders to slow down, reflect in-the-moment and on-the-moment, to think critically, and make responsible decisions with greater intention. She believes structured reflection is a catalyst for building stronger teams, better workplaces, and a more human-centered world. In her academic research, Jennifer found senior executives moving at warp speeds under tremendous pressures. Leaders have limitedtime for reflection, and it is not typically built into the organization's design (strategy, structure, process, rewards). Nonetheless, the C-Suite executives Jennifer researched all understood how structured reflection can make them better leaders. Her journey with reflection began more than 25 years ago through a structured active listening process and journaling, both of which she continues today at the USC Marshall Center for Effective Organizations, and through her consulting and executive coaching. With this book, Jennifer gives leaders the reflective tools to navigate decision-making in AI-enabled organizations with greater responsibility, adaptability, and human-centered awareness. Jennifer holds a doctorate degree in organizational change and leadership from the University of Southern California.
