Em is stuck. Using again, she lingers in a California coastal town no one has heard of with no car, food, or money. A local matriarch takes her in, and with her help, Em slowly starts to recover. But then her past sweeps in with the morning fog in the form of a new stranger, sending her running into the greatest peril she's ever known.
Jonathan is lost. Waking up in shambles, struggling to remember last night, with most of his possessions stolen, he wanders through the redwoods of Humboldt County until the fog envelops him and drops him into a kinder time, where the dead don't bother him, and where alcohol has not yet destroyed his marriage and sent him running from the law. A stranger finds him on the road and drives him into town, but it's too convenient that she claims to be a part of the job he's supposed to start that day. Spies are everywhere. Will he know when to run? Or will the transgressions of his past catch up to him?
Two souls, both running from a troubled past, become entwined when a mysterious substance alters their understanding of themselves. As they learn more about the hidden motives of this strange town, they become embroiled in a local conspiracy older than history.
