Private Investigator, Ed Case, takes on one of his strangest cases to date. He is hired to find a missing book, a bible no less, for Olivia Cartwright. A few weeks previous Ed had come to her rescue when she was the victim of a mugging and feels he owes it to her as a friend to help, much to the reluctance of his business partner, Bob Brown, who thinks it will be a waste of their time.
What at face value seems to be a tedious and possibly impossible task, soon becomes one of intrigue and danger as Ed and Bob find themselves embroiled in a murky tale of incest, family feuds, blackmail, drugs and even murder. His task is made even harder by constant victimisation and harassment from DCI Morris of the Padstow police force, which he vows to put a stop to when his case is complete.
