Unlike Alfred Thayer Mahan, Britain's great maritime strategist Sir Julian Corbett believed that victory in war does not come simply by the exercise of sea power and that, historically, this has never been the case. Sir Julian S. Corbett was trained in the law, but became a noted British naval historian, who died in 1922. In addition to the influential work, Some Principles of Maritime Strategy, he also wrote numerous other books including England in the Seven Years War, A Study in Combined Strategy, The Campaign of Trafalgar-1805, and Drake and the Tudor Navy.
