Professor Eaton is currently employed by the Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK) as the Editor of Primary Dental Care and Standards in Dentistry. For seven years, he was a National Research Facilitator for the faculty. From 1997 - 2002, he was the Director of the National Centre for the Continuing Professional Education of Dentists. He is listed by the General Dental Council as a specialist in both Periodontology and Dental Public Health. He is currently on the editorial board of a number of journals and is the Editor in Chief of the journal Oral Health and Dental Management and is the Chairman of the British Dental Editors Forum. He is a past member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Dental Research and President of the Education Research Group of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) and in July 2008 became the first President of the newly created IADR Network for Practice-based Research. In September 2011, he was elected as President of the European Association of Dental Public Health. In September 2010 he became a Regional Dental Tutor based in Canterbury. In October 2011, he became the first Chair of the Platform for Better Oral Health in Europe.
