In recent years Latin America has become a global flashpoint in the feminist struggle within many different key areas: environmentalism, anti-colonialism, human rights, with striking, game-changing results at government and legislative levels. With the aim to raise awareness of the radical changes that are taking place in the region to the English-speaking reader, Charco Press has invited 30 of the continent's leading authors, intellectuals and activists to write essays offering their perspectives on the challenges facing women's rights today: from the patriarchy to femicide, to the inflections of identity embedded in colour, class, or in indigenous cultures. With contributors that include Isabel Allende, Valeria Luiselli, Lina Meruane, Djamila Ribeiro and Rita Segato, from seventeen different countries, from El Salvador through to Ecuador to Argentina, this unprecedented collection is sure to challenge, provoke, and inspire.

Originally from Buenos Aires and now based in Edinburgh, Carolina Orloff is an experienced translator and researcher in Latin American literature. In 2016, Carolina co-founded Charco Press, where she acts as Publishing Director and Chief Editor. She is also the co-translator of Ariana Harwicz's novels Die, My Love , Feebleminded and Tender , and of Jorge Consiglio's Fate .
