Set in the seventies, a young black girl remembers feeling left out at school, and then learns from her mama about the sacrifices made before her.

The author, Laurie Caldi, is a Senior HR Consultant from Toronto, Canada. As an ally, Laurie helps her clients build engaging workforces that are equitable, diverse, inclusive and accessible.

She wrote this story for a short, rhyming story contest where the topic had to be about an appalling sacrifice. She hopes it will help raise awareness for children in lower elementary grades and to open discussion with their parents about racism and our troubled history.
