'Once inside the sacred space of the medicine wheel, you'll find you're in a different world'
When her two daughters were approaching the finish o their education, Marie Herbert, felt the need to mark the end of the child-rearing phase of her life by a rite of passage. Wishing to find a new role for herself, she planned a journey of personal transformation under the guidance of Native American healers. However, the end of her time of motherhood coincided tragically with the sudden death of one of her daughters and her odyssey was to become far more poignant and more urgent than she could have imagined.
Healing Quest is the extraordinary description of Marie Herbert's inner and outer journey. Vivid portraits of the shamans, master storytellers and medicine people she met along the way are combined with fascinating accounts of the Native American ceremonies and rituals in which she participated, which included the sweat lodge, initiation rites and a medicine walk before the final climax of her transformation, four days and nights alone and apart, seeking vision within the sacred space of the medicine wheel.
Marie Herbert offers a moving and courageous account of what she discovered on her healing quest. At the same time she suggests how we too may learn from what she experiences and so gain insights not only into the ancient wisdom of the Native Americans, but also into our own lives, whether in practical, emotional or spiritual terms.
