The Book, Samuel: The Champion of God outlines the life of Samuel, using the Book of 1 Samuel as a guide. It tells of a man of outstanding character, courage and conviction. Through his actions as a Priest, Prophet, Judge, military commander and king maker, he saved Israel from being taken captive by the Philistines or becoming fully assimilated into the pagan nations that surrounded them. This would have been disastrous for God's plan of the coming Messiah. From the life of Samuel, the book shares many practical lessons for life and godly leadership. Samuel was the most underrated and unappreciated leader in the Old Testament, other than perhaps Moses. His wisdom was so important that King Saul sought out the Witch of Endor to call him up from the grave for advice about a coming battle. Samuel exemplified a deeply spiritual man who became for Israel the conscience of the covenant Israel had made with God at Mount Sinai.
