Paul Stevens is a bookseller in the marginalized world of used books, a lover of Flaubert and Dickens, young, unsure of himself - until he meets Judith and is drawn into her secret world.

Matt Cohen's books include the highly praised novels The Disinherited, The Spanish Doctor, and Emotional Arithmetic, the film version of which is scheduled to be shot in the summer of 1998. Last Seen has sold in Germany and the U.S., and movie rights have been sold in Canada. It was also adapted for CBC radio's "Between the Covers," read by R.H. Thompson. Matt Cohen lives in Toronto.
