Late in the 19th century Lieutenant Colonel Sebastian Chance, a retired soldier with a drug problem investigates the invasion of an Eastern European kingdom. Assisted by Kalyenka, an ex-revolutionary and artist, he contends with the D'Angels, a mythical cult, against a manipulative Sumerian god.
