Late in the 19th century Lieutenant Colonel Sebastian Chance, a retired soldier with a drug problem investigates the invasion of a remote Eastern European kingdom by twelve warring nations. Assisted by Kalyenka, a reclusive artist, he contends with the D'Angels, a mythical cult, against a manipulative Sumerian god and the worlds oldest conspiracy theory.
