As well as writing over fifty books, including the bestselling Stargazing series, he has produced and scriptwritten many television programmes on astronomy and is a regular media commentator on breaking astronomy news. He has been a consultant to both the Royal Greenwich Observatory and New Scientist magazine. Nigel is now based in the USA and is a future astronaut with Virgin Galactic. Asteroid 3795 has been named 'Nigel' in his honour.
