In this book, Hackett introduces the traditional usage of the mapping sentence within quantitative research, reviews its philosophical underpinnings, and proposes the 'declarative mapping sentence' as an instrument and approach to qualitative scholarship.

Paul M. W. Hackett is a professor of ethnography and research methods at Emerson College, U.S.A. He is also a visiting professor in health research methods at the University of Suffolk, and visiting scholar at the Royal Anthropological Institute, London, UK.
