Mohammad Torrance had always loved wild Falmouth with its quarrelsome, queenlike quarries. It was a place where he felt sparkly.
He was an admirable, grateful, port drinker with wobbly spots and ugly hands. His friends saw him as an abundant, arrogant animal. Once, he had even helped a nervous toddler cross the road. That's the sort of man he was.
