Autorentext

Richard Wagner (1813-1833) was a German composer, conductor, and theatre director. Known for his revolutionary concept 'Gesamtkunstwerk', meaning a total work of art, he was one of the only opera composers to write both the music and the libretto for his productions. His most celebrated work is the four-opera cycle 'The Ring of the Nibelung' (1876).

Following the narrative is the finale, Gotterdammerung, which is a German translation of the Old Norse phrase Ragnarok, referring to a prophesied war and the renewal of the world.Arthur Rackham, a master of the Golden Age of Illustration, provides dreamlike illustrations that refine and elucidate the enthralling final parts of this operatic cycle.
