Despite new research and public awareness, autism is still viewed in a negative light. However, unlike most books on the subject that perpetuate this notion, Making Autism a Gift: Inspiring Children to Believe in Themselves and Lead Happy, Fulfilling Lives emphasizes the positive factors. This practical guide was written for those who are affected by autism and autism spectrum disorders. It provides numerous strategies and resources to help parents and teachers maximize the success of their children and students and offers hundreds of up-to-date resources. Also included is the rarely discussed topic of adult autism and what parents can hope for when they are no longer able to care for their child. Where can autistic adults live, work, or gain an education? What about Medicare, trust funds, and powers of attorney? This book provides all the answers.
