Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) was a Scottish novelist, poet, and essayist, considered one of the great authors of world literature. Born in Edinburgh, he studied engineering and law, although he soon devoted himself fully to writing. A tireless traveler, his experiences across Europe, America, and the Pacific influenced his work. He is the author of classics such as Treasure Island (1883), The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1886), and Kidnapped (1886), which stand out for their ability to combine thrilling adventures with deep reflections on the human condition. He spent his last years in Samoa, where he wrote, defended the natives, and was known as "Tusitala" ("the storyteller").
