In this landmark study, Luke Uka Uche has demonstrated the relationship between the "spirit" of recent Nigerian politics and the orientation of the Nigerian mass media. What he has described so graphically and analysed so fastidiously in fact goes beyond mere "reciprocity"; the fact that the? Nigerian media are the way they are first because Nigerian society has been motivated by the forces of ethnicity and fuelled by aggressive partisanship; and the media, having imbibed of this influence, derive their character from it, and in turn become vehicles for reinforcing the ethnicity thesis.
