The Global Compass: Beyond the Battlefield is a powerful and deeply human memoir that transcends the boundaries of war, faith, and culture. In this moving journey from the deserts of Iraq to the quiet reflections of post-service life, retired U.S. Army Major Scott Meehan shares what it truly means to serve, to return, and to rediscover purpose beyond the battlefield.
With over twenty-five years in uniform?from the tense days of the Cold War in Berlin to the perilous streets of Baghdad?Meehan's story reveals not just the conflicts fought abroad, but the inner wars that follow soldiers home. Through vivid scenes, heartfelt honesty, and global insight, he invites readers to walk beside him as he forges friendships across cultures, faces the weight of loss and moral complexity, and ultimately learns that the greatest victories are not measured in missions accomplished, but in lives touched.
As a Special Forces veteran turned educator and storyteller, Meehan bridges two worlds: the disciplined focus of military intelligence and the compassionate understanding of a teacher and family man. His narrative explores the spiritual compass that guided him through chaos, offering lessons on resilience, leadership, and the universal search for meaning. From encounters with Iraqi vendors whose courage shaped historic outcomes, to quiet moments of faith and forgiveness, The Global Compass captures the profound interconnections of humanity?even in times of war.
For veterans and civilians alike, this book serves as both reflection and revelation. It speaks to anyone who has ever faced transition, trauma, or transformation?and emerged seeking direction. With humility, humor, and hard-earned wisdom, Meehan delivers a narrative that is as instructive as it is inspiring, reminding readers that no journey truly ends at the battlefield's edge.
Whether you are drawn to military memoirs, inspirational true stories, or cross-cultural experiences, The Global Compass: Beyond the Battlefield offers a lens into courage, purpose, and faith that will stay with you long after the final page.
