Her parents had warned nineteen-year-old Sage of beasts and evil things that lived in the Bricket Wood, since she was little. Ghastly and nasty were the tales, young children taken and sacrificed, women ravished and sent back to their villages to bear babes that bore the mark of the devil, men who went into the forest and were never heard from again. When Sage left the well-worn trail into the dark forest, despite the ghastly tales her parents had told her and of the horrid things that happened there.
Villagers that wondered into Bricket Wood, did so at their own peril, but she was drawn by the voices calling to her. Sage had been on her way to the village this morning, but her mind had been elsewhere instead of concentrating upon her way and her own safety, allowing the evil that dwelled within the dark trees of the Bricket Wood, an opening. It had taken its chance for Sage was as sought after by this darkness as she was by the men of the village
Traveling through the dense forest she drew closer to a small clearing; she moved aside a branch to see what had brought her here. Looking between the branches, she caught her breath at the sight that greeted her. Three girls, not much older than Sage herself, danced around the clearing. The three were beautiful, scarcely dressed in filmy shifts of varying colors. She knew she could never leave now.
