Red has spent most of her life on a starship flying though the vastness of space searching for intelligent alien life. The dangers of interstellar exploration has claimed the lives of half the crew. Red does not know if anyone will survive to explore the last star on their itinerary and return to Earth, but she will do everything possible to complete her mission.

Thom Whalen studied experimental psychology at UCSD (B.A.), UBC (M.A.) and Dalhousie University (Ph.D.). After working for the Government of Canada conducting research on the human factors of computer networks for thirty years, he retired to begin a new career writing fiction.
