Travis Morris was born in Coinjock, North Carolina, in 1932, and was in the Coast Guard from 1951 to 1954. He has been involved in the commercial trucking business, a sportsmen's guide, a commercial fisherman and the owner of a real estate company in Currituck. In 1974, he operated Monkey Island Club and opened it to the public for the first time since its founding in 1876. In 1983, Travis and John H. High started Piney Island Club, which Travis is still a member of.
