Wali Ali Melvin Meyer was an early follower of Samuel Lewis. A graduate of the University of Alabama and Vanderbilt University, Wali Ali traveled to San Francisco in search of experiences rather than mind exercises. He became one of Murshid Sam's esoteric secretaries and served him until Murshid Sam's death in 1971.
