New developments in Systems Biology, OMICS-es, Synthetic Biology, Bioinformatics, Automatics, Computer Science, and some crossdisciplinary fields like Cognitive Science, Artificial Intelligence for dealing with biological applications, are morphing into a new subject: Integrated Biotechnology. Integrated Biotechnology focuses strongly on the high level "global behavior" of complex systems, which is considered to be more holistic than reductionistic. Integrated Biotechnology is an interdisciplinary in biotechnology that integrates various disciplines, including genetic engineering, cell culture, bioseparation, mathematics and modeling, bioinformatics, etc, and techniques related to up-, mid-, and down-stream biotechnology, into new one to produce or modify biological products or processes for improving people's living standards. Wang-Yu Tong (Born 1963) is Professor in the field of Integrated Biote-chnology at the Anhui University of China and obtained the PhD degree in Biochemical Engineering from the Zhejiang University. His research interests focus on the integration of up-, middle- and downstream biote-chnology, dealing with microbiological pharmaceutical, biotransformation and biodegradation of biomass and renewable resources, bioseparation, and so on.



Xue-Cheng Zhang (Born 1974) obtained the PhD degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Science & Technology of China and is Associate Professor in the field of Structural Molecular Biology at Anhui University, China. His research interests focus on the structure, folding, aggregation and function of proteins, mainly using the method of NMR. The targets he is studying are unstructured proteins, especially intrinsically disordered ones.
