The book proposes a system to describe narrative incoherencies in the 12 ^th century German epic. It shows that the constitution of the texts was largely influenced by the medial-pragmatic and cognitive frameworks of their reception. Their principles of coherence reflect a visual-auditory narrative practice that is characteristic of the transition between verbally communicated and scripturally received textuality.
